What's better than an NVMe SSD on your Raspberry Pi? Two SSDs, of course! Pimoroni has made this possible with their latest addition, the NVMe Duo.
Introducing the NVMe Base Duo, a PCIe Gen 2 expansion card for the Raspberry Pi 5. Simply fill it with one or two M-key NVMe SSDs (supporting sizes from 2230 to 2280) and mount it below (or above) your Pi for a compact and fast storage solution - it even comes with rubber feet!
It's the perfect solution to turn your Raspberry Pi 5 into a file server, media center, reverse proxy, and more - basically any task that benefits from large amounts of fast storage, redundancy, or just utilizing a couple of spare drives - especially with random high I/O operations per second (IOPS). In short, it's a game changer!
NVMe Base Duo follows the new "PIP" design guidelines of Raspberry Pi, ensuring it will be easy to use and supported in the long term through updates from Raspberry Pi OS - although it's still very early and things are rapidly improving there!
With the newest firmware of the Raspberry Pi 5, it is now possible to boot from the NVMe Base Duo. Make sure during installation, to install the newest version of the firmware to the Raspberry Pi. You can do this with the command "sudo raspi-config".
PLEASE NOTE: The shipped product may have minor differences from the photos but will essentially be the same.
Raspberry Pi Firmware
For the most trouble-free experience, ensure your Raspberry Pi OS is up-to-date and your RPi 5 firmware is updated to 2024-05-17 (May 17th) or newer. This supports all features of the RPi PCIe specification (including booting!!) and means you won't have to tinker with configuration files to get started.
